How do you choose a race team to root for?

When I was a kid, it seemed easier to attach myself to a sports team or an athlete and root for them. Whether it was their colors, their personality, or a funny commercial, I would find a way to say, "that's my favorite because..." For example my favorite NASCAR driver growing up was Bobby Labonte, because it was the first die-cast that I ever bought.

Now a days, I have somewhat moved on from Nascar and started watching more road racing, especially the TUDOR series. The problem is, I don't really know who or what I am rooting for. I don't know many of the drivers, and they are not exactly big TV personalities like NASCAR so it's hard to base it off a likable personality. I really have no other personal connections to the manufacturers, drivers, or anyone involved...so how do I choose? Or do I just watch the race for the sake of watching the race like I have been.

Go to a race, root for the team who gives you the best free shit.

I used to watch Grand-Am and WTR won the first race I went to so that stuck with me and I root for them in P. Corvette because I'm a Chevy guy and 'Murica. In CTSCC I rooted for the team the guy I know drove for. Now I'm probably gonna root for the team that's close to me. And the team that gave me part of their car last year.

There's nothing wrong with watching a race just for the fun of watching a race. You don't always have to pick sides.

Pick this one! the #007 Aston Martin from TRG-AMR. It's being co-driven by a girl and there is the obvious Bond reference. Plus it's a dope team.

Mainly the driver for me. I really liked Mika and then Kimi got me enthused as well. I also feel the same way they do about conversations and people in general. I also really liked Kamui and I wish he had gone to a better team or Toyota stayed and he did ok. Ricciardo is great and he doesn't take himself or much seriously, I like him and I hope he does well but I want Kimi to win. If Kimi leaves I could become a Bo77as fan, he seems cool and will probably continue.

In GT, I choose the corvette as I've loved them since I can remember.

In protoype or other classes, it is two-fold.

1) Whichever looks the coolest

2) Supposing their car looks cool, the drivers / team must maintain a level of honor, as I don't have a tolerance of any cheap/malicious driving (or playing in any sport for that matter).

If you like drivers with an awesome personalty, Jordan Taylor is pretty much the best known driver in Tudor for his Instagram antics. http://blackflag.jalopnik.com/search?q=jorda…

I like Katherine Legge, because she's awesome, drives the DeltaWing, and spray painted her name on the wall after she crashed in the Kink at Road America.

I like OAK Racing because they have a sweet black and hot pink livery.

I'm a Corvette guy, so...

However, I did really like the Falken Tire Porsche, and it's clean-racing drivers, until they hired on Patricia Long, whom I can't stand.

I really like the style of the Muscle Milk HPD LMP car, and the series only suffers with the loss. I'm really sad that Lucas Luhr ended up going to my teams competition-BMW RLL.

1. Is it Porsche? If so, then yes, because of mental programming going way back to my childhood.

2. If not, do I currently own, or have in the past owned and retain fond memories of owning a car by either the engine or chassis manufacturer in question? If so, then yes.

3. There is no brand loyalty. Follow the team with the drivers you most relate to. In case of a tie, pick the team with the most interesting engineering or higher probability of owning should money not be an issue.

Identify the manufacturer that produces a product or technology you really enjoy/own/yearn for. Find team with said car and least amount of douche. problem solved.
